How to Improve the Page Title of a Web Page?

My dear friends, many a time people under estimate the power of the title of a web page. Basically, proper optimization of the page title is something which can bring loads of search engine traffic to your website. Search engine traffic is something for which every website owner is looking for, so you should also know about how you can improve the title tag of a web page, so that it can return you the much needed results.
Well let me guide you, here are a few tips which can help you to properly optimize your page title:

Be Specific: As we know that every page of a website is having a unique purpose, so it should have unique title too, which should be specific. Every page should target some specific keyword, so always prepare the title of the page with proper care. You should choose the title in a way that it should reflect the purpose of the particular page. Consider the factor that the title which you are giving to a page is searched by the people or not? Remember, you have a maximum of 65 to 70 characters to give your title. So properly use these characters and be specific.

Good looking title is something which can attract visitors: Remember if you are searching for something in any search engine, the first thing which you notice in the SERP is the title of the links. So if you need to get visitors from the search engines then you should prepare compelling titles for your web pages. It will surely attract more visitors from search engines.

Common Mistakes: Normally many people do the mistake of either providing same title on all the web pages, or choosing the company name as the title of the web pages. These two are not good, as the purposes of all the pages are different, and thus it should have different titles and keywords too. Mostly long tail keywords are the key behind the success of the titles.

You should give a thought about the title and you are sure to get many more visitors from the search engines, which will increase the value of your website.

SEO Basics by SEO Pankaj Sharma

Back in the day, SEO was quite a simple process consisting of three parts:
  1. Market and keyword research
  2. On-page optimisation
  3. Link building (off-page optimisation)
In 2011, it’s not that simple anymore. Depending on what niche or industry you are working in or rather what kind of site and business model you have, SEO can be a lot of things. SEO can or even has to consist of more disciplines.

Most importantly, local SEO/Google Places SEO or e-commerce SEO/Google Shopping SEO play a major role for many businesses today. Local businesses that also have an online shop need both.
On the other end of the SEO process there is landing page optimisation or conversion optimisation. An SEO process without it is not really complete.

That’s still not enough though, as without king content there is nothing to get linked to on your site or to rank for in Google, so a decent SEO process entails a content strategy. This might include:
  • blogging
  • infographics
  • videos.
To spread these you need social media outreach and participation, as content does not spread by itself without some traction on social media. So a typical SEO process might look something like this:
  1. Market and keyword research
  2. Local SEO/Google Places optimisation
  3. On-page optimisation
  4. E-commerce SEO/Google Shopping optimisation
  5. Content strategy (planning, creation, optimisation, promotion)
  6. Social media outreach & participation
  7. Landing page optimisation/Conversion optimisation
  8. Website analytics and monitoring

These steps have to be undertaken for more and more sites. Even sites that aren’t considered e-commerce often use check-out forms or shopping carts. Many businesses that are not local by definition also have real-life brick and mortar storefronts or offices. So Google Places and Google Shopping SEO is not rare either.

Even video SEO for YouTube and beyond is mainstream now. There is also mobile SEO to make sure your visitors can reach your site using their smartphones or tablets.

Already overwhelmed? You don’t need to be. You still can stick to the old SEO model and succeed to some extent, but you can gain even more by expanding your SEO strategy to include all of the above mentioned disciplines.

Shutters and Blinds: Few Differences

Shutters and Blinds are two entirely different terms used in interior decoration industry. On some grounds they can be said similar as their few functions are common. They both have slots from where light air in the room can be passed, to ventilate the room. Blinds are generally used inside the house and can replace curtains. But shutters can be used to replace blinds and they can be used in exterior of windows. In this way shutters used for exterior purpose are identically different from blinds. Let’s discuss it in detail.

Shutters are a generally a part of the window they cover up in an approach that blinds do not follow. They are really hinged onto the frame that goes around the casement. This means that shutters can be totally detached from jacket the window pane if this is required. When stopped, most blinds intended for the house are opened using rope which moves the blinds above the window.

With blinds, individual boards are wrapped together with rope. As I have stated earlier, to change the height of the blinds a different, but joined string is pulled. Shutters are swung in and out to be closed and opened. Most of the windows will be enclosed by two shutters which are opened by pulling them open, one from each side of the pane. It is somewhat similar to opening double doors.

Google's farmer update: My views about it.

Recently, we have seen an update in Google's Ranking Algorithm. Due to which these are some sites which have suffered a lot. It has been said at Google's official blog that this time they have insisted on quality content of a website and if its not there then its rankings has depreciated. But in my view, there are many reasons remain unveiled.

I went through a list of sites which are tanked after the algorithm update which can be found here:http://www.sistrix.com/blog/985-google-farmer-update-quest-for-quality.html. I hardly find any site lacking quality content on website. I must say that things have been made complicated by search engines and the way they are improving algorithms it is getting hard to rank well in search engines.

It was also said that 'content farms' will be punished but on the contrary, site which are actually not content farms are punished with no reason. It should not happen.

None of our client websites faced such downfall in rankings for we do White Hat SEO. :)

JC Penny Denies having a hand in Black Hat SEO

The debate over White Hat vs. Black Hat SEO is in the National spotlight with an article in the NY Times entitled “The Dirty Little Secrets of Search.” The ultimate goal of any SEO, whether using White Hat or Black Hat techniques, is to get their client’ website to rise to the top of the organic results.  An added burden of the Black Hat SEO is not to get caught using their deceptive techniques for fear of Google’s consequences.
As the story goes, JCPenney  was dominating the top of Google’s search results. They were occupying the #1 position for keywords such as “dresses”, “furniture”, “area rugs”, “skinny jeans” and a myriad of others. The question came up about how they are accomplishing this amazing feat! Through some investigative reporting by Doug Pierce, it was determined that JCPenney’s SEO company was utilizing Black Hat SEO techniques described as “the most ambitious attempt to game Google’s search results that he has ever seen”.

The results of this investigation yielded 2,015 pages that held links to the JCPenney website, with anchor text such as casual dresses, evening dresses, little black dress, cocktail dress. Clicking on any of these phrases would direct you to the main dress page on the JCPenney website. This gave Google a false impression that the JCPenney website was satisfying one of Google’s algorithms with flying colors, thus launching them to the top of the natural results. This type of linking is a known no-no, a form of exploitation, deceptive and clearly Black Hat SEO, punishable by either being black listed from Google or at the very best, watching your placements sink into oblivion.

The NY Times sent Google all the evidence that they had collected and Google took prompt action against the offender.

At 7pm On February 9, 2011, JCPenney was #1 for keyword “samsonite carry on luggage”. Two hours later it was #71. Also at 7pm, it was #1 for keyword “living room furniture”; Two hours later it was #68.
“In other words, one moment Penney was the most visible online destination for living room furniture in the country. The next it was essentially buried.”

It’s not unusual for a prospective client to call all upset that they have lost all their positions with another company that promised the world. I’ll never forget “Tom” who had a top three position for a highly competitive home industry term. He was actually screaming and frantic on the phone. I assured him that what his last SEO Firm had done was called “Black Hat SEO” and though it worked for a while, they got caught and he was now reaping the wrath of Google. This was five years ago, and we weren’t sure how long it would take to fix the problem. But we “undid” the damage and within three months, “Tom” was back in the top five for the very keyword phrase that he desired. Although it’s tempting to take the short cut, it’s rarely worth it in the long run.
